How do I Log On to the Instructor Workstation in the College Labs?

You can log on to the faculty workstations by using your email logon name and password, on the AD domain.

Logging on to the Instructor workstations (College Labs): Turn on the monitor by pressing the button on the front of the Monitor, if it is not already turned on; notice that a green light appears right next to the button showing the power on.  Turn on the CPU. After the system boots up you will be prompted to sign in. Enter your username as the Login name and enter your network/email password as the Password.  The Domain will be AD, e.g.:

USERNAME: xsmith
PASSWORD: your password here
DOMAIN: AD

How do I turn off the computer?

Simply close all programs that you have been using or that are running on the computer. When you are back to the original desktop. Click on the Start button and choose Shut Down.

Log Off

You will be prompted to select Shut Down in the Win 2000 menu bar, hit OK.

What if the System Freezes?

Try pressing the following 3 keys simultaneously Ctrl > Alt > Delete. A window would pop up and you will be given 6 options on the window. Choose Shut Down. Your computer will ask you again to confirm if you want to shut down. Click on OK and the computer will Shut Down. Wait approximately 60 seconds and then turn on the computer again, following the above directions.

What if the Monitor Screen does not turn on?

Many times the monitor goes blank because it simply goes into a power saving mode. If you simply move your mouse or hit a key on the keyboard it will come back on. Also, check to see if the power is turned on; Inform the Instructor if it still does not work.

What if there is no sound on the speakers?

The speakers may be switched off. Try turning them on and making sure that the volume is turned up. Also ensure that the volume on Windows is turned on by clicking on: Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control.

Make sure none of the Mute buttons are checked and all the volume levels are in the middle or higher.

What if you can't find an application you want to use?

If you cannot locate the application you want to use on the desktop OR the Program menu, try the following: Click on Start > Search > For Files on Folder; Type the name of your file in the given field and Click on Search Now.

Printing Problems?

In the application that you are using, go to File > Print and then ensure that you have chosen the correct printer from the drop down menu at the right. Consult your instructor if you are not sure which printer to choose.

How to renew the SPSS License?

If you are a faculty member needing the upgrade for your college lab, please inform Van Duong through the lab log or by calling x4967. If the software license needing upgrade is on a university rollout machine, please call the help desk at x7777. Otherwise, contact Darren Ridgeway at x5484.

How to Log on and Log Off a Laptop?

Turn the power on, wait for the system to boot up. You will see a log on Screen if there are any log on instructions posted on the laptop use those, or else use your username and password and log on to the AD domain. Please make sure that the VERY first time you log on as yourself, with your username and password onto the AD domain, you are connected to the Network so a profile is created for you in the computer. After logging on with your personal login information while connected to the CSUF Network, the next time you log in you wont need to connect to the CSUF Network and may just simply log in to the AD domain. To log off click on start and Shutdown. The Laptop would turn off automatically.

How to connect to the Internet on the Laptop?

If you wish to use the Internet on the laptop, make sure you connect the LAN cable to the NIC card on the Laptop first. Once you have connected the LAN cable to the Laptop NIC card you may turn the Laptop on. Click on Internet Explorer icon on the desktop to start browsing the internet.

How to connect a Laptop to the LCD Projectors in the EC Lab classrooms
?

Follow the following simple steps:

  1. Connect the VGA cable which is placed on top of the VCR shelf, to your Laptop.
  2. Turn on the LCD (from the Panel Control) then select CD2 - you should see RGB2 highlight on LCD display screen.
  3. Turn the Laptop on.
  4. Hold down the function key and press the F7 key (please see note below) to send the Laptop screen onto the LCD.
  5. The Screen on Laptop should now appear on the LCD display screen.
  6. To quit, turn off the LCD Projector, unplug the VGA cable from the Laptop and shut down the Laptop.

*Note: The F7 Key may be replaced with F5 or any other Function (F) key, depending upon the model and make of the Laptop. Usually there are a pair of monitors on the particular F key to identify it.
