About the TSC:

CHHD IT proudly hosts a Technology Support Center (TSC) available exclusively for the faculty and staff of the Colleges of Health and Human Development and Education. The TSC is conveniently located in the basement of the Education Classroom building, in EC 043. If you need any assistance in using or have general questions about the TSC please contact Darren Ridgeway at dridgeway@fullerton.edu or extension 5484.

Access to the Technology Support Center (TSC)

The Technology Support Center remains open through the week during working hours M-F 8am-5pm. The CHHD IT staff are happy to assist faculty and staff to use the resources at the Technology Support Center during working hours. 

The faculty and staff may use the facility after hours also. Please call Darren Ridgeway at extension 5484 or email him to receive the keypad code and the alarm code for the room.

What resources are in the TSC?


Workstations:
  • 2 Dell computers (Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, 512 MB Memory, 40 GB Hard Drive, and CD-RW + DVD Combo) running Microsoft Windows XP.
  • 1 Dell Pentium 4 computer running MS Windows XP. Specification is as follows: Pentium 4 3.4Ghz, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, and CDRW-DVDRW combo drive.

Printing: A color laser printer is provided that prints high quality color documents at 16 black and white pages per minute and 16 color pages per minute.

Scanning: The TSC is equipped with 2 scanners (1 flatbed, 1 auto-feed duplex) that provide color picture/graphics scanning using Adobe Photoshop 7 and rapid document scanning using Omnipage 15 Pro, which allows conversion of scanned images into a variety of formats, including MS Word and PDF documents.

Video Capture and Editing: The TSC has a video capturing device which lets users capture a video/DVD to one of the workstations. The video can then be edited using Roxio Suite 9 software. The resulting video can then be burned to a DVD. To use this feature, please contact Darren Ridgeway at x5484 for training.

Internet/ CSUF Network Resources: Internet connection is available in the TSC. Users can use a web-based email system to send a scanned document to their own inbox.

Copying data on CD-ROM: Both workstations at the TSC are equipped with a CD-Writer (CDRW) that can be used to "burn" or copy data onto a blank CD-ROM.

Scantron: There is a Scantron machine connected to a workstation on the right-hand side of the TSC. Running on ParScore 5.0 software for Windows, it can scan, analyze and sort student test scores. Faculty must register with and take a Scantron class the Faculty Development Center (FDC) in order to be assigned a username and password for accessing the ParScore 5.0 software. For further information please contact the Faculty Development Center at ext. 2841.

Software and Applications:

The following software is installed on the Scanning Workstation:

  • Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional: for converting documents into PDF format.
  • Adobe Suite CS2 including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Distiller
  • SPSS: To analyze data.
  • Microsoft Office 2003: The complete suite including Word, Access, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.

The following software is installed on the Scantron Workstation:

  • Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional: for converting documents into PDF format.
  • SPSS: To analyze data.
  • Microsoft Office 2003: The complete suite including Word, Access, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.

The following software is installed on the Video Capture/Editing Workstation:

  • Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional: for converting documents into PDF format.
  • Adobe Suite CS2 including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Distiller
  • Roxio Suite 9: for capturing, editing, and burning videos to DVD

How To Log On


Workstation 1: A User’s Manual folder can be found in TSC and the information for logging on to both workstations can be found inside. Please use the default username on the screen (which should be hdcsdean) to login to both workstations to ensure full access to software.
 
DO NOT LOG ON AS YOURSELF, if you log on as YOURSELF with your own username and account, you may not have access to the resources.

How to use the Color Laser Printer


When in a document or application e.g. MS Word, simply click on the Print Icon as shown below:

You will see the following print options window:

Choose the Print options such as number of copies etc. and click on OK to print the document.

How to check campus Email


You may click on the "Check Campus Email" icon located on all workstations at the Technology Support Center, or simply visit the campus email page at http://email.fullerton.edu:



CSUF email

You will then be asked to enter your username and your password, which is exactly the same as you enter to view your OUTLOOK Email or Campus Email. Click OK when finished:

You should now see your email window just as you can see it on your campus computer. *Please note that since you are accessing the email remotely, some of your folders that reside on your campus computer may not be visible.

Xerox Scanning


Various departments in these colleges have been provided with the Xerox Document Center that features the capability to scan documents through the Xerox machine onto your desktop. (*Requires software installation on your desktop computer and generation of a user account on the Xerox machine.)

You may use the Xerox machine at EC 321 to scan documents to the Technology Support Center workstations. Please view the help page for Scanning with the Xerox Document Center.

Using Adobe Writer to Convert Word Documents to PDF


You may use either one of the workstations at the Technology Support Center to convert your MS Word documents into Portable Document Format (PDF). Follow these steps:

Step 1: Open MS Word just as you would in any other computer, by going to START > PROGRAMS > MICROSOFT WORD

Step 2: Open the document you wish to convert. When finished click on the "Convert to Adobe PDF" button located at the top left hand of your window:

Step 3: The following window should appear, and here you can name the document. *Notice that the "Save as type" has PDF files selected showing that the document is being saved as a PDF file.

Then you would see your document appear in the Adobe Acrobat like shown below:
