CHHD IT The Technology Support Center (TSC) was set up for the use of the faculty and staff, with these goals:

  1. provide our community with a friendly environment for enhancing computer skills,
  2. create a workspace where staff may provide assistance, and
  3. simulate a lab environment where faculty/staff may develop lab classroom skills.

The resource most in demand is the auto-document-feeding text scanner used to convert hard copies into electronic format (PDF or MS Word). For assistance in using equipment, see the TSC help pages.

Workstations:

  • Two Dell Pentium 4 computers running MS Windows XP. Specification is as follows: Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, 40GB Hard Drive, and CDRW-DVD combo drive.
  • One Dell Pentium 4 computer running MS Windows XP. Specification is as follows: Pentium 4 3.4Ghz, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, and CDRW-DVDRW combo drive.

Printing:

A network color laser printer is provided that prints high quality color documents at 16 black and white pages per minute and 16 color pages per minute.

Scanning:

The TSC is equipped with 2 scanners (one flatbed, one auto-feed duplex) that provide color picture/graphics scanning using Adobe Photoshop 7 and rapid document scanning using OmniPage 15 Pro, which allows conversion of scanned images into a variety of formats, including MS Word and PDF documents.

Video Capture and Editing:

The TSC has a video capturing device which lets users capture a video/DVD to one of the workstations. The video can then be edited using Roxio Suite 9 software. The resulting video can then be burned to a DVD. For training in how to use this feature, please email Darren Ridgeway, or call him at x5484.

Internet / CSUF Network Resources:

Internet connection is available in the TSC. Users can use web-based email to send the scanned documents to their own mailbox.

Copying data on CD-ROM:

Both workstations at the TSC are equipped with a CD writer (CDRW) that can be used to "burn" or copy data onto blank media.

Scantron:

The Scantron machine is connected to the workstation on the right-hand side in the TSC. Running on the ParSCORE 5.0 software for Windows, it can scan, analyze and sort student test scores. Faculty must register with and take a Scantron class at the university's Faculty Development Center in order to be assigned a Username and a Password for accessing the ParScore 5.0 software. DVD / VHS Converter:

The TSC is equipped with a DVD VHS Converter connected to the TV. You can convert your VHS tapes to DVD's or you can convert your DVD's to VHS tapes.

Software and Applications:

The following software is installed on the Scanning Workstation:

  • Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional: for converting documents into PDF format.
  • Adobe Suite CS2 including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Distiller
  • SPSS: To analyze data.
  • Microsoft Office 2003: The complete suite including Word, Access, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.

The following software is installed on the Scantron Workstation:
